School Budget Cap Ballot Question

Vote NO on the school budget cap ballot question!

The Merrimack County Superior Court has allowed a ballot question imposing statewide school budget caps to remain on the November ballot. An emergency appeal to the NH Supreme Court was also denied.

Importantly, neither court ruled that the proposal is constitutional. That question remains contested.

This follows voters in many New Hampshire communities rejecting local budget-cap proposals. As Majority Leader Jason Osborne put it, “the state will step in and cap local taxes for them.”

What happened to local control?

Representative Eileen Kelly’s August 23 essay makes the case that this ballot question is unconstitutional, deceptive, and confusing.

The Run to November

There is still time to VOLUNTEER!

Over the next 4 weeks, we’ll be working hard to support our candidates in several ways:

  • Driving candidates — Residents drive our candidates around Mont Vernon as they go door-to-door, allowing candidates to focus on meeting voters rather than finding addresses.

  • Placing candidate signs — See our request form below for SIGNS! Signs help build name recognition throughout the campaign.

  • Canvassing — We’ll do another round of canvassing the weekend of October 24 focused on Getting Out The Vote (GOTV).

  • Standing at the polls on Election Day — November 3 — We’ll support our candidates in the General Election.

Able to help with any or all of these? Watch for email requests from Allison Scobie-Carroll, our VP and Volunteer Coordinator, or send her a quick email now to make sure you’re on her list!
