Federal Actions You Can Take
From our friends at:
The 43-day federal government shutdown has (finally!) ended…
What does that mean for libraries?
Funding for libraries, including programs administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), will restart in the coming days as employees return to work.
IMLS will resume administering state library grants that support interlibrary lending, shared digital resources, and other vital services through state library agencies.
Congress did not agree on a new budget for FY 2026: THIS IS TEMPORARY
The CR funds only three of 12 appropriations bills for FY 2026, which means Congress will need to pass nine spending bills or face another shutdown on February 1, 2026, for most government programs, including library programs.
Use ALA’s easy email template to tell our representatives why federal support for libraries is so critical.
Epstein Files - Contact our Congressional Delegation
The House seems poised to vote to release the Epstein files. What will the Senate do?
Call our representatives and urge them to support the release of the Epstein files. It’s past time.
You will often get voicemail or a staffer who is there to record your opinions.
Senator Shaheen (202) 224-2841
Senator Hassan (202) 224-3324
Representative Goodlander (202) 225-5206
Representative Pappas (202) 225-5456
Say something like:
Hi, my name is _____ and I’m a resident of _________. I’m calling to request that ________ support current legislation to release the Epstein files. We deserve transparency and accountability. The victims support the release of the files, and we should honor their courageous request.
I have not found a template email to share, but I will update this section if I find one. There are numerous petitions related to the Epstein files. This one from Change.org is focused on the victims.
