MVDC Actions - Week of 08/10/2025
Kelly Ayotte has reportedly ruled out adding NH to the list of states looking at mid-cycle redistricting.
The White House has been urging Republican governors around the country to take up redistricting to increase the party’s chances of retaining the House majority. Texas called a special legislative session to redraw district lines, prompting states controlled by Democrats, including California and New York, to pursue efforts to do the same.
“The timing is off for this, because we are literally in the middle of the census period,” she said in an interview with WMUR. “And when I talk to people in New Hampshire ... it’s not on the top of their priority list.”

Open Democracy is asking that we Contact NH Secretary of State Scanlon and urge him to prioritize robust voter education this fall.
Two egregious bills designed to make absentee voting more difficult were signed into law and go into effect on September 30th, 2025.
SB 287 requires all Voters requesting an absentee ballot to:
Submit a copy of their ID with the absentee ballot application, OR
Have their absentee ballot application notarized, OR
Present an ID in person to their town or city clerk.
SB 218 extends the documentary proof of citizenship requirement to the absentee voting process.
Last year’s rollout of HB 1569 lacked the voter education efforts needed to prevent confusion and disenfranchisement after such a substantial change. Now, with even more restrictive laws in place—particularly impacting our state’s most vulnerable voters—it’s critical that Secretary Scanlon allocate more resources toward clear, widespread, and accessible voter education ahead of the upcoming elections.
