Kent Street Coalition’s Louise Spencer Wins Maggie Goodlander Community Leader Award
Louise Spencer, Co-Founder of Kent Street Coalition, was awarded the Maggie Goodlander Community Leader Award at the New Hampshire Democratic Party Convention on Saturday, May 16. The award recognizes a "Democrat who is a pillar of their community, one who builds strong coalitions, listens to diverse voices, and takes on what must be done.” Congresswoman Goodlander presented the award to Louise, describing her as “ a force of nature”, a consistent and persistent progressive presence in New Hampshire, and a builder of coalitions for good.
We’re proud to partner with Louise and KSC and can’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition. Congratulations, Louise!

NH HOUSE AND SENATE SESSIONS
Last 2 Sessions - May 21 and June 4
From AFSC NH:
“the legislature’s remaining business will be to deal with any bills that have passed both bodies—but with differences due to amendments. You can see lists of these bills here: House bills amended by the Senate, and Senate bills amended by the House.
The legislators in the body where the bill originated have three choices: (1) to concur with the other body’s changes, in which case the bill passes and goes on to the governor; (2) to non-concur, in which case the dies, or (3) to form a Committee of conference (CoC) tasked with crafting a compromise bill to be sent for a both to both bodies.
From Kent Street Coalition:
This Thursday, May 21, the House and Senate will take up those bills that do not have CoC’s. CoC’s can be requested anytime up until Thursday, so it is impossible to know exactly what will be on the calendar and up for a vote.
CoC’s reports must be signed off on (meaning there is an agreed compromise) by May 28th. Those reports will then go to the House and Senate for a vote up or down on Thursday, June 4th. Any that pass both chambers will then go to the Governor’s desk.
You can see a current list of all Committees of Conference here; it will be updated regularly over the coming weeks
Action this week:
We should have details for next week’s session, but this week is tough because it’s not clear what will be voted on. For this week, the best option is to reach out to Senator Ricciardi and our 3 Representative(s) to urge them to vote against the radical Free State Agenda. Ask them to vote against any bills that:
Dismantle our public schools
Disrupt the ability for local school districts to plan (open enrollment, mandated school budget caps);
Further impose on the fundamental right to vote;
Drive up local property taxes;
Target the LGBTQ+ community, especially those bills that target transgender youth;
Allow “campus carry” at our colleges and university;
Impose reading bans and deprive our educators and students of the freedom to learn;
Threaten our public health system
Keep it simple; make clear that you are a constituent and that you vote. Focus on the issues that are most important to you.
You can use this email as a basis or start fresh and write your own. You can also use it as a telephone script.

Subject: Mont Vernon Voter Constituent Opposes the Free State Agenda
Dear Representative / Senator,
I live in your district in Mont Vernon. I consider voting to be a civic responsibility and vote in EVERY election.
Since it is difficult to know precisely what will come before the House/Senate this week, I’m asking you to oppose bills that make life more difficult for hardworking New Hampshire families and give local communities less say in local decisions.
This includes bills that seek to dismantle our public schools and disrupt local school districts’ ability to plan, such as open enrollment mandates and mandated school budget caps; bills that impose reading bans and deprive educators and students of the freedom to learn; bills that would allow “campus carry” at our colleges and universities; bills that further restrict the fundamental right to vote; bills that target the LGBTQ+ community, including transgender youth; bills that threaten our public health system; and the many proposals that ultimately drive up local property taxes.
New Hampshire families are struggling with rising costs and need elected officials who work every day to make life better for their constituents and strengthen our communities.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Mont Vernon, NH
Additional NH Actions You Can Take
4 of 6 Similar Discriminatory Bathroom and Locker Room Bans are now dead, but 2 are still headed to Governor Kelly Ayotte’s desk.
These bills seek to legalize discrimination for bathrooms, locker rooms, sports, and prisons on the basis of "biological sex" as defined as only "male" and "female,” completely erasing the scientific reality of intersex individuals. These discriminatory policies have no place in NH, and create real-world privacy and safety concerns for all Granite Staters.
Governor Kelly Ayotte has previously vetoed similar legislation.
Call Governor Ayotte at (603) 271-2121

Ask Ricciardi to OPPOSE HB155
Fight NH’s Corporate Bailout Bill!
From our friends at:
HB 155 is currently alive and moving through the New Hampshire Legislature. While everyday costs climb, conservative politicians are pushing HB 155—a $26 million corporate tax break for wealthy multinational corporations like Amazon and their lobbyists. That’s money taken straight from our schools, housing, child care, and health care—and shifted onto all of us with higher property taxes.
Every dollar lost to HB 155 is a dollar Granite Staters have to make up. It’s a corporate bailout that rigs the system even more in favor of the rich and well-connected while the rest of us pay the price.
Use THIS LINK to email Senator Ricciardi. Feel free to make the email your own.
