AFSC -The original purpose of this bill was to allow public school students attending a CTE [Career & Technical Education] center that is not their resident public school to be able to take core academic courses at the public school in order to lose less learning time. The newly amended version of this bill will now allow resident students to be crowded out of academic courses, and public school students wanting to take CTE classes to be crowded out by charter school, private school and voucher students

WEDNESDAY - SUPPORT
SUPPORT HB331:
HB331 -relative to the secretary of state's procedures for enrolled bills.
NHDP - After a bill passes both the House and Senate, it goes through a lengthy administrative process before going to the Governor’s desk for signature. During that time, which could last anywhere from days to months, the bill goes into a “black hole” where its location and procedural status are unknown to the public. Oftentimes, the public is not notified that a bill has been signed into law until the Governor’s Office releases a press release days later. Many bills take effect upon passage, meaning that at times, laws take effect without the public’s knowledge. This bill enhances public transparency by requiring the Secretary of State’s Office to publish the current location of any bill on its website, after it passes both bodies, until action is taken by the Governor.

NEW THURSDAY - OPPOSE
OPPOSE THESE THREE:
HB 557 - relative to the information that appears on the school budget ballot. NEW
KSC - This bill requires that school budget ballots include information about cost per pupil and assessment results, without providing the contextual information needed to understand the data. The info is already available on the Dept. of Ed’s website and many school district’s websites, and would clutter up ballots in a confusing way.
HB 718 - requiring the state board of education to report the unfunded financial impact to school districts for rules adopted by the board which exceed state or federal minimum standards [for Special Education]. NEW
Rep. Hope Damon: “The very likely unintended consequence of this bill is to ultimately reduce our special education standards. Minimum should not be the goal – excellent student outcomes should be the goal.”
HB 771 - relative to funding for open enrollment schools. NEW
Rep. David Luneau: “....This bill requires local taxpayers to subsidize students attending schools in other districts. Given the lack of equitable school funding across the state, the minority believes this will only increase the strain on property taxpayers, widen the disparities between communities, and create further opportunity gaps between neighboring school districts.”

Still Defending Library Funding!
*Call/Write to Save Library Funding*
*Call/Write to Save Library Funding*
Nearly all staff at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) was placed on administrative leave 3/31/25. As a result, all processing of grants has been suspended. Within weeks, libraries across the country will experience the impact of this loss of funds.
Call on Congress (YET AGAIN) to Protect Federal Library Funding
We need all library supporters to call their members of Congress and urge them to protect federal funding for libraries by preventing the dismantling of the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
